Mercenary Courage Is Live!

I must have whined in the right ears at Amazon, because after an interminable delay (it was over a day, people, seriously!), Mercenary Courage is live there. I’ve already posted a sample chapter here, but here’s a look at the cover and the blurb. For those who enjoyed Mercenary Instinct, we’re back to Ankari and Viktor in this one.

After a grueling battle that cost him dearly, mercenary captain Viktor Mandrake wants nothing more than to get his ship repaired, let his men have leave, and spend time relaxing with Ankari. Entrepreneur, schemer, and leaser of his company’s one and only pink shuttlecraft, she has become the woman he loves and wants to keep at his side.

But as soon as Viktor sets foot on the space station Midway 5, it becomes clear that the Galactic Conglomeration Fleet wants him arrested for past grievances. As a mercenary, confronting the Fleet isn’t wise (it’s not wise for anyone else, either). Normally, Viktor would collect his people and depart, but a mysterious disease has resulted in a quarantine, leaving him stuck on the station with no access to his ship or his crew. Fortunately, he has Ankari with him, but unfortunately, Ankari’s family has been pointing out all of the reasons why she shouldn’t be flying around on a mercenary vessel. And he’s not certain they’re wrong.

If Viktor and Ankari can’t find a way off the station before the Fleet ships arrive, Viktor may never escape. Worse, no matter what happens, he risks losing Ankari forever.

Mercenary Courage is the fifth novel in the Mandrake Company science fiction romance series and is a sequel to Mercenary Instinct. If you haven’t read Mercenary Instinct yet, it’s available for free on Amazon.

Thanks for taking a look! As always, I would love to hear from you and hear what you want. More adventures with already introduced characters? More fresh love stories? (I am planning on romances for Lauren and for Sgt. Hazel before too long.)

Happy reading, all!

Got my copy this morning and started reading with my coffee and breakfast. Great way to wake up and loving it so far!

Thank you! Second best valentine. (Add in chocolates and you would 1st). It probably didn’t want to upload on Friday the 13th. Regardless, I got it on amazon and will spend all day reading it. I am stuck in snow and at airports back east trying to get home.

On my Kindle now . . . too bad I have a full day or I’d start reading now. 🙂 Thanks for pestering Amazon to get this one up!

  4. I’m so excited! I am going to start it AFTER the romantic evening stuff (hoho). I know it will be hard to put down. Still think Striker needs a wild woman to tame his ignorance!

Can’t beat a great book on a long, quiet weekend. At least we are out of the snow. Love the combination of adventure and romance that you write. Please keep the series going.

Loved the story. My only complaint would be that I think the female on the cover looks very young and not a good choice to represent Ankari.

I’m glad you liked it, Lycia.

That’s actually the same woman from the cover of the first book. 😛 Unless you’re rich and can afford to hire models for a photo shoot, when it comes to covers, you’re stuck with what’s available on sites like Shutterstock. It’s tough to find people that match the characters and work with the world, especially with SF and Fantasy, so you just do the best you can.

Loved this one as much as the others.. I am all ready for the next , and the next ones… Does Lauren leave her lab? What is the next adventure for the whole group and do the hookup again with the treasure hunters. Also my hubby is reading this series, too.

    • Ruby says:

Thanks for the note, Carole. I’m glad you had fun with the new installment (and talked your husband into reading them, hah). I plan to do novels for Lauren and Sgt Hazel at some point, and I have a half-written novella I need to finish, too, with Azarov, the firefighter sergeant. 🙂

    Wow Ruby,

Just finished reading Mercenary’s Courage and found it to be an action packed can’t put it down till you finish type of books. (Hmm come to think of it I think that about all your books I have read so far.) I just keep falling for the way you build so much detail and feeling into your characters. I will definitely be re-reading these several times. I was wondering if you would be bringing the Blackwell family back into the group again or maybe having Jamie’s dad make an appearance. Just some thoughts but, I am looking forward to reading about those you already got in the works. Have to say you are my favorite author. Thanks for your writing and your thoughts.

I’m glad you’re enjoying the adventures! I have a few more stories in mind first, but it would be fun to revisit the treasure hunters. Maybe they’ll need to hire Mandrake Company again in the future. 🙂

Hi – I love your writing and love this series but if I am to be honest I felt just a wee bit let down on this. Not to say the book was not good or that your world building and writing wasn’t awesome as always – but I think I have moved on from Victor and Ankari and was expecting a new romance (sorry I am a bit weird like that!)

Pls don’t stop writing about this universe (and any new ones you come up with :)… there are so many more wonderful characters there to write about. You are still on auto-buy for me.

Just finished reading Mercenary Instinct…it had been a Kobo AND bookbub recommendation. I really enjoyed it…in fact, the only real bummer is that I went to buy more of your books and could not. 🙁 I REFUSE to do electronic business with Amazon…when will your other Mercenary books be in epubs???? (I did buy your Stars AcRoss Time book)

    • Ruby says:

      Hi Dorothy,

Thanks for checking out MI! The second book in the series is available for pre-order on Kobo (releases on the 15th), and I’ll gradually be shifting more of them out to the other stores when their exclusivity periods with Amazon run out. I plan to have 3 & 4 out by June.
